Differences in Narratives

Every person you meet as their own goals, situations and problems. This is their personal narrative of their life. As told in chapter two we must first find our ethical shape. To me this is like a outline of what we want to accomplish and how we should begin to structure it. My narrative in life is too properly educate myself to achieve a higher understanding of things. With this knowledge I can then discern the goods of the narrative which helps shape our understanding of ethical reasoning. Finally we use the "web of goods" to realize that we meet people in a time frame. Some people may influence our lives in beneficial ways when we most need it. It will us pick out those good qualities we saw in those certain people and make us try and pick up on those good qualities.

In my life I met a teacher who helped me choose an ethical learning style while he inspired me to dive into my career path. This teacher focused heavily on reading and writing with analytical aspects. He said rather then thinking about the surface of the readings that we should look deeper and really try to grasp what it means. This applied to my life because I choose to dive deeper into friendly conversations and see what makes each person I talk to special. Sometimes people say things because they are happy or sad, but they really portray who they are by sticking to the things they believe in. I look for others whose narratives seem pure and ethical because it will create a good environment and it will also help me take a step further into my narrative. Even encountering people with narratives who aren't ethical right help me realize what I should be doing and maybe offering a little guidance to those that might need help.

  1. The text provides concrete examples of the importance of shaping our own understanding of ethical reasoning. I agree that it's important to find others who we want to surround ourselves with that may potentially influence us in positive ways. Important individuals such as your teacher who helped inspire you to further your career path and learning approach has really changed your perspective on the world around you. Thanks for including what you look for in others because I think we sometimes forget!
