One of the most interesting aspects of chapter one was the section about protecting and promoting the goods we have come to know throughout our life. I found one part of this especially interesting, "Protection requires adaption- a willingness to be open to new manifestations of the old, and a willingness to admit when an idea's time is past..."(p.6). This is an interesting concept to think about, especially with many changes going on in todays society.
An example of this I can relate to is my own workplace this past summer. With a new employee starting, it was clear that we had very different ways of going about our work, which quite frankly conflicted. We both had our own idea of what were good values in the workplace. Here is where this willingness to be open to the new "good". Instead of arguing about the way the work should be done, a willingness to be open to each others new idea of good, we were able to work more proficiently than ever.
