Les Miserables 2

The second part of the movie is very interesting to watch. I find it fascinating how people are treated based on their position in the community. It is like they have these "levels" where people who are in the higher level could treat people who are in the lower level than them as they like. However, it is the "ethics" that they possess at that time that right their wrongs. Moreover, it is very obvious how Javerts does not want to respect those who used to be lower than him. He considers himself in the higher "level" and it is somewhat an insult for him to be lower than Jean, someone who used to be lower than him.

What is also really interesting is how Cosette trusts Jean almost instantly. Yes, she hides behind a tree and seems afraid for a little while but as soon as Jean talks to her, she smiles and instantly trusts him. It seems that people at the movie have less trust issue than we are now. If i was Cosette, especially if i live with those thieves, I would have a hard time trusting someone because I would think that all people are like them.  I really like how the thief couples pretend that they care about Cosette more and more so that they could have more money from Jean. They know just how to use the trick to get what they want. It is rather fascinating because we can see that it is very hard to get money at that time and people would do anything for money.

Furthermore, in the movie, it seems really easy to disappear from the law. Jean does it twice and he even takes Cosette with him for the second time. It is nice to see that man who was helped by Jean returned to favor for him. Overall, I do think that the communication ethics in the movie does not operate the same as today. They have different norms than us and while we think that it's crazy to treat people like that, to have that much different between the poor and the rich, it is completely normal at that time as that is what communication ethics should be at that time.

  1. Very cool blog post. I love how you indicated the use of the different forms of communication compared to todays use of communication, which is very true. The treatment of rich to poor is such an interesting form of communications that can be seen throughout the film. Cool comparisons and nicely sought out.
