All businesses, trades, or service need effective communication to bring a thought or idea into action. There are many different aspects to how communication ethics work. There will always be disagreements for what is more effective and naturally both sides of the respective parties must reach an agreement. Ethical dimensions in all forms of communication are needed for problem solving through differences in the workplace and in everyday interaction. Ethics literacy position is discovering what needs to be brought fourth or to 'protect and promoted' in communication.
In chapter one 'the good is the valued center of a given communication ethic, which is most important and held in highest regard finds protection and promotion in our communicative practices' (pg. 3). The importance to us in a narrative sense and as a society is are we living a "good life" or acting as a "good person". I think that I live a good life by helping my community and giving money to Good Will or the needy on the side of the street.
A narrative helps provide human action.. This narrative has to be agreed from a group of people, thus causing a story to remain active. This is important because a given communication ethic, both single out or separates people. Chapter two indicates how this occurs. 'We engage a communication ethic in foreground communicative action that simultaneously points to a particular narrative background that nurtures a given virtue structure, framing the good of the narrative' (pg 40).
