Les Miserables

In the film Les Miserables I found countless examples of communication ethics throughout.  Immediately, it is evident social classes are a key role when it comes to the communication for all the characters.  In the opening scene the prisoners walk hunched over with their heads down...knowing to not talk back or resist to the guards around them.  This indicates the difference between high class and low class in their society.  High class individuals are allowed to voice their opinions while the people in low class are vulnerable and keep to themselves.

The working class women have one goal: to keep their jobs - no matter how they are treated.  Men sexualize the women in their workplace by saying and acting inappropriately towards them.  Further on in the film another example of this arises; Fantine gets fired and literally thrown out of her workplace by a male.  That was not the end of the abuse she received, as she later got molested without gaining any justice.  These two examples show the lack of respect men had for the women.

I usually do not enjoy musicals but I have to say this film has me tuned in.  I am excited to see what happens next.

  1. I really like how you described the aspect of how high and mighty the men are represented in the film to how low and disrespected the women (Fantine) are. I agree with you on how this film, not compared to most musicals, is very interesting and causes a 'turn on' effect.
