The notion of a public arena is an interesting one especially when we look at today's society. The text describes the public arena as "...not a place of ideology where there is one idea; it is a robust place of multiple perspectives and ideas." (pg. 103). There are many different ways that this is utilized in today's society with social media and how it's getting easier and easier to spread our ideas and beliefs to different people.
It's amazing to look at the concept of the public arena and how it pertains to the technology that influences our everyday lives. With Facebook and Twitter and all the other forms of social media, the public arena has gotten a lot bigger. My co-workers and I were having a conversation one day about how many friends we have on Facebook and I was amazed at how I was one of the lowest with roughly 400. It's fascinating to me how an individual can modifiy how public their online public arena is. With Facebook, you can decide who you are friends with, and with Twitter you can set your account to private and then you get to decide who can and can not follow you. These social media platforms are a great way to utilize the public arena and get our message out to the world, or just the the people closest to us in our lives.
