Chapter 7 Blog Post

Interpersonal skills and interpersonal communication are two different things.

Before this chapter, I would have thought they were the same.

Not listening to a coworker when they talk.  Poor interpersonal skills.

Not caring about a coworker and the place they have on your work team.  Poor interpersonal communication.

The ethics of interpersonal communication moves interpersonal communication to the realm of responsibility for the relationship.  (page 127)

In the second scenario that I posted above, it would be up to me to decide what I wanted to do to change the relationship and develop the skills to work together and create some understanding.
I think this chapter is interesting because it creates the small group 2-4 people, and it put the onus of responsibility on all the members of the group.  You have to acknowledge that you each play a pivotal role and that the roles may change depending on the circumstances.  Each person has to take some responsibility.  The health of a group is based on mutual ideas and respect and a willingness to be adaptable.
