Culture Shock

During my freshman and sophomore years of I spent my coent in Atlanta, Ga where I attended Clark Atlanta University(CAU). CAU is a Historic Black College or University, so the majority of my peers were African American costume to a similar culture . Since transferring to the U I have been introduced to an entirely different culture to communicate with. The complete contrast from my the two colleges through me off a bit at first and took me a second to adjust to a the relatively white college. The book explains this feeling of disorientation as a culture shock.

The book defines a culture shock as the natural response of feeling disorientated when the cultural background of ones communicative life is missing (Page 162). This supports the of how individuals get shocked if a routine is disrupted. At CAU I experienced paradigmatic variation where as we all shared the same culture of being African American with slight variations of communicative styles. The U engages me in a culture with paradigmatic differences from the culture I am used too.
