Organizational Communication

Chapter 8 uncovered an interesting concept known as organizational communication. The book defines organizational communication as the orchestration of communicative practices that announces how formal and informal structures of events and persons in a given organization interrelate to accomplish a purpose or purposes (pg.140). It is important to have healthy organizational communication in order to maintain an efficient work environment. Organizational communication allows for individuals within the organization that have different perspective narratives to obtain a particular goal. The particular set goal is known as a dwelling place.

An example of organizational communication can be seen in churches. All churches require an agreed upon way of communication in order to perform certain task. At my church there is an understood form of communication that entitles individuals to raise one finger in the air as they pass through the church during service to express condolences for any interruption. In this example the church represents the organization and the finger being raised represents the form of communication.
