In chapter 7, the idea of interpersonal communication is discussed at length. There are a few components that together make interpersonal communication work, or in some instances fail. The idea of interpersonal communications itself is the "good of the relationship between and among a small number of people"(120). It is important to maintain this good in order to have a successful relationship, especially with the idea of distance.
One example of how interpersonal communication and distance works is with other coaches for youth hockey. One of the coaches is very upfront and vocal about every issue that is brought up. There is no idea of distance in their head. With constant emails, phone calls, and face to face conversations, the ideas they bring forth seem to fall on my deaf ears. Thinking critically about this, distance is needed to maintain that good in the small circle of coaches, without that distance this interpersonal communication suffers greatly.
